Quack Arrested for Operating Ayurvedic Hospital in Anna Nagar
In a significant crackdown on unauthorized medical practices, the Anna Nagar police apprehended a 42-year-old man, A. Venkatesan, on Friday, December 5, 2025. Venkatesan was charged with running an illegal ayurvedic hospital and unlawfully prescribing allopathic medicines to unsuspecting patients.
Complaints from Patients Spark Investigation
The arrest followed a series of complaints that poured into the Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services from concerned patients. These complaints highlighted that Venkatesan, a resident of Perambur, was reportedly operating his facility on Anna Nagar 2nd Main Road without the necessary licenses or permissions. Alarmingly, it was revealed that he lacked any formal training in medicine, raising concerns about the safety and well-being of the patients who sought treatment from him.
Official Investigation Uncovers Disturbing Facts
Responding to the complaints, a dedicated team led by Sukumaran from the Arignar Anna Government Hospital in Arumbakkam was assembled to conduct a thorough investigation of the accused’s hospital. Joined by senior police officials, they arrived at the site on Friday to assess the situation firsthand. The health officials found that Venkatesan’s qualifications were shockingly inadequate; he had not even completed his Class 10 education, let alone received any formal medical training.
Legal Actions Taken
As a result of their findings, the police swiftly arrested Venkatesan and confiscated various medicines from the premises of the unauthorized ayurvedic hospital. In a bid to uphold public health standards and ensure the accountability of medical practitioners, the Anna Nagar police have registered a case against Venkatesan under three sections, one of which includes violations of the Indian Medical Council Act.
Community Response
The incident has sparked significant concern within the community regarding the proliferation of unlicensed medical practitioners. Residents and health officials alike are calling for stricter monitoring and regulatory measures to prevent such occurrences in the future. The authorities are also urging individuals to remain vigilant and report any suspicious medical practices.
This case serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of seeking medical care from qualified and licensed practitioners to ensure the safety and health of the public.
